PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM VALLEY YMCA

At the Philadelphia Freedom Valley Y, we have a plan to make our neighbors healthier, our children more engaged and our communities stronger. With your help, we have the power to make this plan happen. At our Y we work to have real impact on the lives of our members. We reach out and offer encouragement, we welcome everyone with open arms and we always lend a helping hand.

Why do we do this?

We do it because we see in each person an opportunity to connect, the potential for success and the chance to serve. We are creating a center of community where everyone belongs.

At our Y we make sure parents have a safe place for their children, that older adults have a place they can meet new friends and stay connected and families can learn to live healthier together.

We know some people think we are just a gym and that's OK. We just want to make sure you know we don't just talk about making a difference - we work hard every day to transform lives and bring communities together. When you become a part of our Y family, we want you to know just how much we value your time and your belief in us.

This is what our Y is all about. This is us...

This is... how a member sees us

When I walk into the Y on any given day, the word that comes to my mind is inclusion. Straight ahead are those at the Welcome Center who will guide and answer any question you might have. The lobby is filled with toddlers waiting to go into child care so their parent can exercise or take classes. The lobby is also a gathering place for many to enjoy a cup of coffee and chat with others. You will often hear many languages spoken which makes it comforting for all members.

Looking to the right, you will find the Wellness Center which is filled with many using the machines and exercising with the equipment. There are all ages, nationalities and body shapes and staff ready to help out when there is a question. Of course, you have those who are experts in the Wellness Center and they work out right next to a beginner and no one feels out of place.

The best is all of the classes designed for seniors. There is no judgment of abilities. These classes are designed for older adults and will keep them agile.

The swimming area is superb with a complete mixture of skills. The experts swimming laps, the children playing in the baby pool and many using the warm water pool for exercising and classes.

The best part of the Y is that no one knows who is a scholarship member and who is a donor. The Y makes it possible for everyone to feel included and to be able to select classes and activities for their unique abilities.

This is... how we live healthy

Keith has been a member at the Boyertown YMCA for just over a year.  He came to the Y because he was getting increasingly worried about being unhealthy and overweight.  As a volunteer for the Special Olympics Swim Team, he was bothered by the fact that he was not modeling good health and fitness for the team.

Keith started coming to the Y and exercising regularly for a few months when he started to notice real change in his weight.  Well, that led to a decision to start eating better – which included cooking more of his own meals.  Keith admits changing his exercise habits were the hardest, but that led him down a much healthier path.  Now, he’s 90lbs lighter and a whole lot healthier.  He’s also made new friends at the Y- including staff- which motivates him to keep coming back. Once he set his routine, fitness became a part of his life.  Good job Keith!  We are so glad you are part of our Y.
